Français 4: If you missed class today (Micah): Today, we watched the hour-long PBS video, Cathedral. It is based on the book by the same name, by David McCaulay. It is partially animated, and partially real-life video. The animated part is telling the fictional story of the medieval town they call Beaulieu, which has just lost their town's cathedral to a fire (a conflagration). Young Pierre ran in and saved the town's relic. Then, the town started to plan the building of a new cathedral... and we follow along in the process, learning, by watching their experience, what kinds of people were involved in the building, the planning, and the financing of the process. The real-life video segments (told by art historians) are telling the significance and importance of French cathedrals today, and in the past, and also show several real examples of cathedrals. YOUR TASK: As you watch this 60-minute video, please fill in answers to the questions on the two-sided question sheet attached below. You will surely have to pause and re-play now and then, to get all of the answers, so allow a good 90 minutes for this activity (NOTE: questions marked with an asterisk have information to answer them throughout the video... others come mostly in the order that they are asked. Read through the questions before starting the video, so that you have an idea of some of the topics that you need to be listening for) ALSO: Please bring in a signed note (or show me a text), from a parent, verifying that you watched this whole video. (By the way, this is a different question sheet than the one that students present in class today used... yours is more involved, but it's the one that I used to use at Metro;) ).Here is the link to the video. (If that link doesn't work, the video is also linked in two spots, on the moodle. IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS with any of this, please EMAIL ME, and I will find a solution.
